Cowichan’s winning streak in the Big Kahuna Women’s First Division rugby season is yet to come to an end. They have already played seven games and have remained unbeaten.
Their greatest victory was against the Kelowna, whom they defeated 29-10. With this impressive play, they just have two more matches scheduled this season.
The Cowichan rugby team arrived at the match venue after a bus ride which was eight hours long. They had only fifteen minutes to warm up but they made the most of it. They started the match with complete possession, ending the first half with 10-5 and finally sealed the match with a 29-10. Three tries were run by their top scorer Carolyn Gudmundseth while Nenagh McCulloch and Ashley Smith added one to it. Two conversions were kicked by Caity Genereaux.
Although Spence and Gudmundseth were declared to be the top players, Spence, who also leads the female rugby team, felt that Jeannine Fong was the real star, she was injured and forced to sit down in the beginning but came back and played brilliantly. When Fong went out, the Cowichan rugby team did not have any substitute and it appeared that they would crumble. However Fong made a quick comeback into the game and finished it.
The Cowichan owes much to Jamaina McLeod, who played in the forward and helped the team massively in the match against the Kelowna rugby team.
Cowichan women’s rugby team visit Abbotsford next week, on the 14th of April and close their season on 21st April with a match against Nanaimo Hornets. These three teams are believed to be the top three teams of the season, with Abbotsford currently in the fourth position having won four matches and lost two in the league while Nanaimo is in the second place, having lost only to Cowichan in the first match of the season.

Guy Armitage has become the latest member of his family to make the move from London Irish to Toulon. He has signed a three year deal with the French side and will link up with his elder brother Steffon from next season.
Steffon moved to Toulon last summer and has impressed in the Top 14 so far this season and it is expected that following being joined by one brother he will also be linking up with the third brother, full back Delon as well.
The three brothers have experienced life in the area in recent years, having lived in Nice as children.
Guy represented England at the Junior World Cup last year and his brothers have both been capped for the full England team, but Guy could well represent France internationally. By the end of his contract with Toulon he would gain eligibility to play for France.
Armitage has said that whilst looking forward to the move “leaving London Irish after six years has been a really tough decision”. Armitage is a product of the Irish youth academy and has spent time on loan at both London Irish and London Welsh this season. He is relishing the prospect of playing alongside some of the top players and coaches in the world. “The opportunity to develop further with Bernard Laporte – alongside Jonny Wilkinson, Matt Giteau and Mathieu Bastareaud”.
Neal Hatley, the Irish academy boss has expressed the clubs disappointment at losing Armitage, but appreciates the lure of playing alongside his brother. Hatley’s comments relating to the opportunity for Armitage to play alongside family will only go to fuel speculation that Delon will be on his way to the South of France too.
Toulon have already developed a number of English players with Simon Shaw and Jonny Wilkinson also at the club and Andrew Sheridan joining from Sale in the summer.
